Special Notes

A rolling loop which runs miles 1-3 of the Chatham Harbor Run backwards, this is a beautiful early fall race. This is a familiar course to Cape Cod Runners as it is also used by the Chatham Turkey Trot and a few pickup races looking for a certified, low-traffic 5K course. Consisting of many rolling hills, it is a much faster course than it originally appears. The Nun Run benefits Dream Day On Cape Cod, a non-profit organization which runs a summer camp in Nickerson State Park for terminally ill children. The race is the offspring of the Nan-Ke-Race, a run/kayak/bike race originally held in the State Park. The host sponsor, The Red Nun restaurant, has also been involved in the Chatham Turkey Trot but became the official named sponsor of The Nun Run in 2007. Although the course is certified and the race volunteers provide copies of the certified course, the starters of The Nun Run have historically started the race at the "Stop Ahead" sign on Pond Street rather than at the electric pole on Queen Anne Road, shortening the 5K by about 75 feet.

The Course

Start just past the intersection of Queen Anne Road and Pond Street and head down Pond Street to Stage Harbor Road. Turn right on Stage Harbor Road and proceed straight on Stage Harbor Road past the intersections with Cedar Street and Bridge Street. Bear right at Stage Harbor on to Champlain Road. Turn right on Battle Field Road and then turn right on Cedar Street. Follow Cedar Street back to Stage Harbor Road, turn left on Stage Harbor Road and then turn left on Pond Street to the finish about 50' after the intersection.

Getting There

Take Route 6 to Exit 11 (Chatham/Brewster) and head south on Route 137 to Route 28. Turn left on Route 28 to Chatham. At the stoplights, bear right on to Old Queen Anne Road and follow Old Queen Anne to Pond Street and the Oyster Pond. Parking is available at Oyster Pond for about 60 cars. Additional parking is available about a tenth of a mile away off of Stage Harbor Road behind CVS and the bank.
