About The Trail
A small loop through upland woods ringed in by Old Comers, Training Field, and Old Queen Anne roads, this town conservation land was the site of an indian archeological dig in the 1970's so stay alert for arrowheads and other artifacts. The western corner of the triangle on Old Comers Road is the site of the town smallpox cemetery. The trail is lightly rooted and mostly pine needle surfaced with small sections of wood chips and it encircles a small glacial depression, not quite big enough to form a long-lasting kettle pond. Because of the proximity of roads on all sides, wildlife is scarce apart from the occasional squirrel, chipmunk or blue jay. The trail is lightly traveled due to the proximity of the Barclay's Pond conservation area across the street but it is well maintained by the town. The September 2008 meeting minutes of the Town of Chatham Board of Selecmen's Meeting notes the completion of the sale of the 50 acres of land but provides no further information about the purchaser nor on the future plans for or disposition of the property.
Getting There
Take Route 6 to Exit 11 and head south on Route 137 to Old Queen Anne Road. Turn left on Old Queen Anne Road and then bear right on to Old Queen Anne Road where it splits with Old Comers Road. Limited parking is available at the Barclay's Pond parking area just before the stop sign on Old Queen Anne Road or off the side of the road near the two trail heads on Old Comers Road.
