About The Trail

neat area along Bass River that consists of two distinct trail systems on each of the two peninsulas … superb overlooks of the river with passages through brackish salt marshes which are slowly being reclaimed by the forest … trails are easy to navigate and soft on the feet … access is via the power lines behind the Dennis Town Offices and continuing along the power line trail will take you to the old Bass River railroad bridge … power lines parallel the old Cape Cod Rail Road lines … at the entrance to the Conservation Area, a right turn will take you on a short trail which will bring you along the edge of the salt marsh and back to the power line trail … continuing along the power line trail, a left turn on the first or second trail will take you out along the larger of the two peninsulas … picnic tables and a few scattered benches make these perfect places to spend a lazy afternoon … bearing left at the trail ahead, you’ll skirt salt marshes on both sides as you cross over to what is almost an island … a single loop trail will take you all the way around this small spit … although power vehicles are prohibited, be prepared for the sporadic mini-bike or ATV visit due to the proximity to the power lines and rail road bed … in 10-15 years, the extended Cape Cod Rail Trail will make this a favorite stopping spot for bike travelers but for now, it’s an ‘undiscovered’ gem

Getting There

Take Route 6 to Exit 9A and head south on Route 134. Take your first right on to Main Street and continue on Main Street, through the stop sign, to the Dennis Town Offices on your right. The access to the trail head is on the right side of the parking lot when you enter and the Town Offices have plenty of parking. Be sure to park toward the right side of the parking lot when the Town Offices are open. To get to the trailhead, proceed down the dirt power line trail about 3/10 of a mile. The trailhead is clearly marked with Conservation Area signs on your left.
