Special Notes

A truly low key local event where weather conditions can range from mid-50’s and sunny to the middle of a blizzard. The race is completely self-timed and the only amenities consist of a single water stop provided by the “director.” It’s the perfect winter tune up for several half-marathons and spring marathons on the calendar and awards consist of local bragging rights for the year. An out and back course which spends several middle miles along the beach, winds can be a significant factor. After a few minutes battling traffic through downtown Hyannis, the race becomes more scenic as it makes its way past the Kennedy Compound, through Hyannisport, and along Craigville Beach. The course is wheel measured to an almost exact 10 miles but has never been officially certified. Begun by local Cape Cod running guru Kevin Petrovek, this early season staple race will be around long after he’s retired.

The Course

Start 50’ before the intersection of Main Street and Pearl Street running with traffic. Take an immediate left turn on to Pearl Street and turn right on to South Street. Be careful on South Street as this is a one way, two lane road and you’ll be running into on-coming traffic. Turn left at the stoplights at the intersection of South Street and Sea Street. The first mile passes halfway between Nautical Way and Stetson Street. Bear right off Sea Street on to Ocean Avenue and continue along Ocean until it intersects with Hyannis Avenue. Turn left on Hyannis Avenue and continue along Hyannis until it becomes Washington Street. Continue up Washington Street through Hyannisport to the end and turn right on to Lafayette Avenue. Loop around as Lafayette becomes Winchester Avenue and drops out on to Scudder Avenue. Turn right on to Scudder and then bear left at the bottom of the hill on to Craigville Beach Road. Bear left at the intersection of Craigville Beach Road and Smith Street and continue on Craigville along the beaches to the stoplight at the intersection of Craigville Beach Road and South Main Street. Loop around the traffic signal island and return.

Getting There

Take Route 6 to Exit 7 and head south on Willow Street. Follow Willow Street, which becomes Yarmouth Road, through the intersection with Route 28 to Main Street. Turn right on Main Street and proceed to Hanlon’s Shoes at 378 Main. Plenty of parking can be found behind the store in the event of a full street.
