About The Trail
50 acres of upland woods border Barclay's Pond and Mary's Pond, two glacial kettle ponds which are connected in periods of sufficient rain. A complex trail network crisscrosses the area and is a favorite of local dog owners. Chiefly a young growth pine forest, the area is also highlighted by access to the eastern shore of Schoolhouse Pond, the old cemetery at the corner of Training Field and George Ryder Roads, several benches for relaxing moments among the trees, a small Buddha statue, and easy access to the Golden Triangle across the street. Most of the trails are easy single-track although there are some steep sections as you descend to the ponds and the trail that extends parallel to George Ryder Road is little traveled and overgrown in spring and summer. The trail sections are generally too short for decent riding or running but are excellent for an hour hike or leisurely walk down to the pond. In low-water season, add a lap around Schoolhouse Pond for some additional distance and a change of scenery.
Getting There
Take Route 6 to exit 11 and head south on Route 137. Turn left on Old Queen Anne Road at the stop sign at the second major intersection. Bear right on Old Queen Anne Road (straight will take you on to Old Comer's Road). Parking for about 5 cars is available on the right just before the intersection of Old Queen Anne Road and Training Field Road. Parking is also available along the side of Old Queen Anne and Training Field Roads.
