Graeber Finale Has Them Dancing In The Aisles (and sliding on the ice)

Cape Cod Athletic Club , January 27, 2009

A picture perfect day, a great band, tons of food, an endless supply of wine and beer and … oh yeah, a 4.5 mile hilly run through Pochet Neck and Nauset Beach … bids adieu to the 2008-2009 Winter Grand Prix. Over a hundred crowded in to the Graeber’s house to enjoy the run and company … and after a slightly delayed start, Joe Navas paced Ryan Gattoni and Geof Newton to the finish with hardly a deep breath. Visiting guest Tora Olafsen led the women’s field in a time of 30:38 as Mary Ryan went head-to-head with Katie McCully for a narrow 2-3. Times were slow across the board as hills, beach sand, and an icy gravel road took their toll on weary legs. In the overall points competition, Barry Merrill edged Nauset’s Brandon Bausch by one point to take the men’s title (the scorekeeper recuses himself) and Polly Papsadore handily trumped the women’s field by almost 400 points with solid performances in every race. Able to stay a hard-charging Happy Trails team, YPD Blue scored the mixed category win in the first ever Grand Prix team face-off while Level 5 took top honors for the men, dominating each race after the first “what team should I be on” confusion at Campari’s. Now we celebrate the fine season with a night out at the Dennis Inn – we’ll see you there! [Banquet Information] [GP#7 Results] [Final Standings]
