Peter Miller and Stacy Cook

Peter Miller and Stacy Cook

Cape Cod Athletic Club , January 29, 2020
CCAC is very lucky to have Peter Miller as a member. Peter has been a fixture of the club for years. Known for his speed, recently Peter had been sidelined with some health challenges that kept him from running but he’s back running! Despite these challenges, his commitment to CCAC remained strong. He was a constant source of support during the club’s Grand Prix series last season whether cheering on the side lines, directing runners/walkers on the course, or handling timing at the finish line. This season he has taken on an even bigger role leading the Grand Prix Committee. He arrives very early to each race to help set up the course and when he’s done with course set up he helps in other ways. He’s been an active supporter of the club’s 50/50 to support our scholarship fund and you can find him helping with that at most races. Peter along with Stacy Cook also did and continue to do a lot of behind the scenes work with forming/adding members to teams and scoring. Peter is also a regular volunteer at local races including the Hyannis Marathon/Half Marathon which has a recent history of unpleasant race conditions. (Thanks for being out there in the torrential rain Peter.)
Peter stepped up this year and has taken on a VP role. In this role, he has helped greatly with forming committees for various tasks within the club. He has been a great resource making himself available to answer questions and provide feedback on committee matters and his help is very much appreciated. He has also helped with club merchandise and to set up an online store that allowed club members to place direct orders for club gear. Peter is always willing to help with CCAC projects and deserves to be member of the month.
Thank goodness for Stacy Cook! Stacy is one of the most dedicated, hardworking, and organized people on the planet. And she’s a really nice person too! Whenever CCAC needs volunteers Stacy is there to help whether it’s registration at races or on the course help. Stacy has weathered the downpours on Hyannis Marathon weekend more than once to make sure runners got to where they needed to be.
During the past year she has taken on the role of assistant treasurer and also is a member of the Grand Prix Committee in addition to her membership duties. Stacy arrives to the Grand Prix races before most of us and sets up to make sure she’s ready to register everyone which she does very efficiently and always with a smile and kind words. She is also great at multitasking and has the ability to listen to more than one person at a time and answer all the questions thrown her way. After the Grand Prix races, along with Geof Newton, she tirelessly crunches numbers and creates spreadsheets so we all know how well or not so well we and our teams are doing.
Stacy is also a strong supporter of her fellow club members. Whether she knows you personally or not, she always cheers you on and has a special way she goes about it that makes you feel like you’re winning your race even if you’re no where close to doing that. You can often find her at races supporting that one runner that is struggling by running beside them while also giving out high fives to the runners at the front of the pack.
Stacy received a club waiver to run the Boston Marathon this year because of her dedication to CCAC. Please honor her with member of the month. She deserves it!
