What is a USATF Sanction?

For a competitor and their families, a USATF sanction lets you know that your race director is conducting an event with a reviewed safety plan and is running the event in accordance with the sport’s rules. In other words, is this event safe and is it fair?  If you are going to set a record or a PR you want to know its authentic. For all athletes but especially youth, the USATF Sanction also lets you know that  race management has been Safesport trained and passed a background check. For the race director and competitors, a Sanction is also proof that the event is financially insured.
